Throughout Year 5, we have two one-hour classes outside of school hours every week during term time (Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4pm). Sessions include all four aspects of the 11-plus examinations (English , Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal/Spatial Reasoning). All resources are included and sessions are led by our highly qualified Pass Masters teaching staff. Sessions will be purposeful and professional. This is a complete programme and parents will not need to do anything beyond this - which means no arguments at home when trying to help or encourage!

Signing up in Year 4 means that you will spend your first year ensuring that we start Year 5 ‘ahead of the competition’. Year 4 classes take place on Mondays at 4:30pm. We’ll have covered key elements of English and Maths that are required to be successful on the 11-plus and will have been introduced to the kinds of Verbal and Non-Verbal challenges that also exist.

The course structure is outlined below.

This is ideal for busy/working families and those who are unable to support their child with the challenging content.

A success platform

  • Phase 1: Familiarisation

    Phase 1 - Familiarisation

Giving a child a real eleven-plus paper for the first time can be very daunting. Children can lose confidence before they have begun. We are the first to create a full set of familiarisation materials which children can build upon throughout their journey to 11-plus success. This allows children to gain an appreciation of what is required in the 11-plus examination without the same level of challenge as the real thing, allowing a non-threatening start to their journey. Familiarisation covers aspects within Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning but will not yet cover the more challenging aspects.

This part of the course starts in September and continues throughout the first half term of the academic year.

  • Phase 2 - Gaining Confidence

This moves everything forwards a step but still doesn’t involve the full difficulty of the formal examinations. This helps children to gain confidence in all areas of the 11-plus; including Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal/Spatial Reasoning at a more challenging level than our familiarisation materials. High quality materials and instruction allow children to learn more independently in this phase.

This phase of the course starts after October half term and continues until the end of the Autumn term.

  • Phase 3 - Mastery

Mastery gives pupils their first taste of the level of challenge of the real 11-plus exams and also the strategies of multiple choice. This phase will include the most challenging topics which will build upon learning of the first two phases.

By the end of the Mastery, children who have attended all sessions will have experienced all elements of the real 11-plus examinations in all areas of Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal/Spatial Reasoning.

This phase of the course begins in January and continues until March (excluding February half term).

  • Phase 4 - Exam Ready

    Phase 4 - Exam Ready

This extensive aspect of the course will look like the test, taste like the test, smell like the test and feel like the test. Readiness comes from great preparation. Confidence comes from readiness. This phase is in two separate sections. Children will tackle problems that are varied, meaning that they will be getting used to recalling knowledge and skills that they have learned previously. Throughout the week, children will do the equivalent of a Maths test, an English test and a Reasoning test.

This phase of the course begins in March and continues for the remainder of the academic year ending on 19th July 2025.
